Animal Health Cluster

The Animal Health Cluster was established to stimulate and intensify technology innovation within the Animal Health Sector. The establishment of this cluster advocated for the participation of various institutions within the National System of Innovation including the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Onderstepoort Biological Products SOC Ltd (OBP), and the University of Pretoria (UP). The Animal Health Cluster aims to accelerate the commercialisation of animal health biotechnology products and facilitate transfer to industry while improving the competitiveness of the local animal health industries.

Beef Genomics Programme

The Beef Genomics Program (BGP) is a collaboration between Industry, Higher Education Institutes (HEI) and Science Councils (SC). The program is inclusive of all industry stakeholders (i.e. emerging and commercial farmers) and has a common objectives which is to enhance the global competitiveness of Southern African Beef populations through utilisation of cutting-edge genomic technologies whilst transforming the sector.

Dairy Genomics Programme

DGP is a multi-stakeholder consortium that seeks to improve and sustain SA dairy industry competitiveness through the implementation of genomics. Its main objectives are to establish a national framework and a dairy cattle reference population; generate GEBVs by combining phenotypic and genotypic data using breeding predictive equations. The Dairy Cluster aims to support projects that can benefit the dairy industry by development of a functional product output, thereby contributing to the competitiveness of the industry and/or broadening of the market for milk and dairy products.

Agroprocessing Cluster

Innovation Cluster aims to facilitate an enabling environment for the advancement of technology innovation and commercialization by adopting a value chain approach which is in line with the Eastern Cape Provincial agro industry.
