Critical thinking skills of the individuals who embark on the entrepreneurial innovation journey
TIA’s Innovation Skills Development Programme (ISD) aims to strengthen Critical Thinking Skills for People behind innovations. ISD provides skills to enable technology progression from ideation to pre-commercialisation to ultimately impact on national development. ISD addresses the strong need for flexible innovative learning approaches within the NSI.Through the Technology Platforms Programme, TIA has established capabilities in various biotechnology focus areas nationally.
Provides skills to enable technology progression.
Objectives
- Stimulate awareness and nurture a culture of innovative thinking.
- Offer specialised and focused training and build capacity to support initiatives that increase capabilities
- Translate innovative ideas to novel technologies, products and/or services to address and grow new and future technologies and skills pipelines within the NSI
- Increase and/or improve efficiencies in existing technologies and new skills within the NSI.
- Provide post support to showcase the innovations both locally and globally for potential market access and partnerships.
Key Focus areas
- Enable the progression of technologies from ideation and proof of concept stage through to pre-commercialisation.
- Drive the innovation, technology management and critical skills talent pool.
- Increase employability and sustainable livelihood, and stimulate economic growth through innovation, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and skills development initiatives.
Internships/Innovation leaders
- Internships for future skills and work-based learning. The direct objective is to develop young black South African scientists, engineers, and related career disciplines.
- Tailored to fast-track development and employability in technology organisations. Mentored internships comprise a range of experiential and work-based formal training
- Scarce skills are addressed though specialised internships: by developing a pool of critical and scarce entry level specialised skills in technology transfer, intellectual property and commercialisation.
