Global Cleantech Innovation Programme

The GCIP is a GEF-UNIDO initiative that aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems that will catalyse affordable and scalable solutions in our partner countries in order to address the most pressing global environmental challenges of our time. TIA is the South African implementing partner for GCIP.

GCIP promotes innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging markets and developing economies to address climate and environmental challenges. The programme supports start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with innovative cleantech ideas in establishing and upscaling robust business models. GCIP also strengthens entrepreneurship ecosystems and facilitates partnerships and networking between private and public actors to ensure the long-term sustainability of its interventions.

Innovations supported are in the areas of: energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste beneficiation, water efficiency, green buildings, transportation, advanced materials and chemicals.

The Leaders in Innovation Fellowships

The Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) programme is run by the Royal Academy of Engineering and funded by the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. LIF brings together emerging leaders who have an engineering-based innovation that has the potential to contribute to the social and economic development of their country through commercialisation.

LIF Global provides engineering and technology innovators with access to high-quality skills training focused on commercialisation and maximising their technology’s impact on society; a network of peers in their home country, the UK and around the world; and experienced mentors helping to create strategic partnerships.
