The Metabolomics Platform is located at the North West University (NWU). The Platform will exploit the application of metabolomics techniques and modelling in order to alleviate inherited health disorders and disorders due to infectious diseases that plague the South African society. It also provides a service to those initiatives aimed at developing novel biomarkers for health and disease, identifying targets for therapy, and monitoring of treatment that contribute to the improved well-being of South Africans. It integrates the strengths of biochemistry, analytical chemistry, mathematics, statistics and information technology with biological and health issues in order to create a paradigm shift in the field of real or neglected health conditions in South Africa. The platform dynamically interacts with international peers to ensure inclusion of expertise not presently available at the platform, aspects of the Metabolomics platform that presently still show sub-critical mass, and increased visibility both in Africa and internationally.
