The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) has partnered with Wits University Business School in hosting an International Innovation and Development Symposium. The symposium aims to explicitly connect the innovation studies agenda to development debates and to offer the specific context of Africa and South Africa as an empirical laboratory for investigating aspects of innovation and development community. The focus of the symposium is prompted by an urgent need to increase focus on innovation and to realign strategies so that science, technology and innovation align with a human development agenda.  The symposium will a provide platform for knowledge exchange amongst academics, policy makers and the business community.

The symposium is good opportunity for TIA to implement its mandate and interact with its various stakeholders. The structure of the symposium will feature keynote presentations by leading scholars, thematic panels, individual paper sessions and roundtables with policy makers and private sector leaders. Some of the confirmed keynote speakers include Professor Emeritus, Nathan Rosenberg, Stanford University, Professor Calestous Juama of Havard University, Professor Raphael Kolinsky, Open University (UK) and Professor Carlota Perez independent scholar associated with Cambridge University and University of Sussex.

The symposium will take place from 24 to 26 February 2010 at Wits University. For more information visit the following link: http://innovationsymposium.wits.ac.za
